Application of GUSS Assessment in Nursing and Preventive Medicine for the Elderly

The phenomenon of aging in the international society needs to attract more attention and attention from the national public, because the gradual deterioration of swallowing function has a great impact on daily diet, resulting in physical and psychological problems such as dehydration, nutritional imbalance, and aspiration pneumonia. This problem, which often occurs in the elderly, makes the elderly gradually afraid of choking, and loses the willingness to taste delicious food, and gradually becomes socially isolated. Swallowing function, oral intake ability, and activities of daily living were significantly decreased in the elderly. In medical and nursing practice, referring to GUSS (gugging swallowing screen) swallowing function assessment scale and self-assessment chewing ability assessment scale, 5 elderly people of different ages were selected for nursing clinical trial observation and questionnaire interview records. Individualized recommendations and precautions for improving medical and nursing processes were provided based on the subjects' status of self-awareness and swallowing function. In order to improve the problem of dysphagia in the elderly, it is the value of this research paper in health care.
